Everything to know about the language of ASL #ASL #DeafCommunity

A lot of people have probably heard about the term ASL and if you haven't that's okay! This post is just for that. It's to educate others about what ASL is and encompasses. There will also be a link on resources to find out more about ASL.

What is ASL?

American Sign Language is a language used for those who are apart of the Deaf community and is a fully developed language dating back to the 1700s when it first started.

Why is ASL important?

It may be harder for people who never seen or heard of ASL to understand the importance of this rich language, but it also gives you the opportunity to understand more and be fascinated by what you learn. ASL has only been developed for a short period of time, but it has grown and developed in so many ways.

ASL has been recognized as a fully developed language with it's own dictionary and has many different forms. Some forms are lesser known, but does fall within the spectrum within ASL and signed language. Some other forms include Pidgin Sign Language and Conceptually Accurate Signed English to name a few.
